Utility Locator Technician – Damage Prevention Specialist

We are hiring dedicated Utility Locator Technicians – Damage Prevention Specialists to join our team and help protect our communities and the environment. No prior experience is required, as we provide PAID training.


Responsibilities:

  • Locate underground utilities including gas lines, electrical cables, and communication lines.
  • Operate electronic detection equipment to accurately locate and mark utilities underground.
  • Mark utility locations with paint and flags to alert others to the presence of utilities.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify potential hazards or safety issues.
  • Utilize mapping tools, location data, and specialized equipment to effectively complete locate requests.
  • Prioritize work by reviewing locate requests and determining routing for each.
  • Drive to job sites in response to routine and emergency requests.
  • Adapt to urgent situations, relocating promptly as needed to address critical issues.
  • Read and interpret utility maps/prints to accurately locate underground utilities.
  • Spend 95% of the job time in the field and perform some administrative tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background and drug screening, with ongoing random drug testing.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Reliability and punctuality are a must.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Capacity to learn to use utility maps, records, and resources to locate underground utilities.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all types of terrain and weather conditions (heat, cold, hills, wildlife, insects, high traffic areas).
  • Technical aptitude and familiarity with technology.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to work effectively with team members and clients.
  • Previous experience in a field-based role or similar outdoor technical position is a plus.

Schedule:

  • Self-managed work environment.
  • Full-time, day-time positions with some occasional overtime and on-call shifts.
  • Some Holiday work may be required.
