Job Title: Malaria Operational Plan Copyeditor

About the Job:

Background: The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) is the flagship global malaria initiative of the U.S. Government, spearheaded by USAID and co-implemented with the CDC. Led by the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator, PMI aims to reduce malaria mortality and morbidity while accelerating progress toward elimination in partner countries. The initiative focuses on evidence-based interventions, strengthening community health systems, and ensuring programmatic accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this role is to format and copyedit up to 31 Malaria Operational Plans (MOPs) and associated country profiles for web publication. Key responsibilities include:

  • Formatting, copy editing, and organizing MOPs, including narrative documents and country profiles.
  • Creating 508-compliant, web-ready PDFs for each document.
  • Ensuring consistency in formatting across all MOPs in alignment with USAID’s Style Guide and PMI’s MOP Style Guide.
  • Coordinating with the Malaria Division Operations Team to ensure adherence to PMI MOP template instructions and compliance with ADS Section 508.

Key Deliverables:

  • Edit and format up to 31 MOPs and associated country profiles for web publication.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the HQ-based PMI team to provide input and status updates.
  • Offer actionable recommendations to enhance the copyediting process.
  • Draft and submit monthly activity reports summarizing key activities and challenges to the Deputy USAID Agency Lead for PMI and RISSA management.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Over three years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in copy editing reports for web publication.
  • Strong understanding of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with the ability to write and edit technical content.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Google Suite.

Highly Preferred:

  • Familiarity with PMI’s Malaria Operational Plans.
  • Knowledge of the USAID Style Guide for 2022.

This is a contract role scheduled from October 1, 2024, to December 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension.
