Job Overview:

Fortrea is a leading global contract research organization (CRO) with a passion for scientific rigor and clinical development experience. We are seeking a Thesaurus and Medical Coding Leader to provide technical oversight of all dictionary coding activities and manage Thesaurus Management for global projects. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, accurate, and timely delivery of medical coded data, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Medical Coding Leadership:

    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the medical coding services team, ensuring staff development and competency achievement.
    • Serve as the technical leader for all coding activities, from project start-up through to maintenance and completion.
    • Review Data Management Plans, coding specifications, and study-specific dictionary coding conventions.
    • Identify and resolve coding-related issues, implementing preventive strategies based on metrics and forecasts.
    • Oversee coding staff to ensure project deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budgets.
  • Collaboration & Project Management:

    • Act as a liaison between the project team and clients, providing coding status updates.
    • Collaborate with clinical, programming, statistics, and other team members to ensure cohesive and consistent data handling.
    • Assist in the development of SOPs and Work Instructions related to medical coding processes.
    • Support the completion of dictionary up-versioning tasks and medical coded data reviews.
  • Process Improvement & Training:

    • Assist in identifying areas for process improvement within medical coding operations.
    • Support the implementation of solutions to enhance project efficiency and quality.
    • Provide training to project staff, ensuring adherence to project-specific and global data management processes.
  • Thesaurus Management & Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure timely dictionary loading and verification for both Fortrea standard and client dictionaries.
    • Support the review of thesaurus management practices and propose improvements based on research and industry developments.
    • Maintain compliance with ICH guidelines, GCP, and other international regulatory requirements.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Education:

    • University/College degree in Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Information Technology, or related subjects.
    • Fortrea may consider equivalent experience in lieu of formal educational requirements.
  • Experience:

    • 4-5 years of relevant experience in data management and clinical data coding.
    • In-depth knowledge of medical coding processes and tools (e.g., Medidata Coder, Central Coding).
    • Strong understanding of clinical trial processes, data management, and quality management systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and provide technical guidance on coding competency.
    • Working knowledge of thesaurus management, standard coding dictionaries, and international regulatory requirements.
  • Language Skills:

    • Fluent in English (both written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MedDRA Certified.
  • Familiarity with Fortrea's operating procedures and organizational structure.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Office or home-based work environment.
  • Minimal travel required (5% of time), primarily to client sites.
