About the Role
Labcorp Drug Development is seeking a Senior Clinical Veterinarian to provide expert veterinary care and surgical support for laboratory animals. This position involves advising on animal care, maintaining compliance with regulations, and offering training to staff. You will ensure animal welfare is prioritized and that facilities meet AAALAC accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide laboratory animal medical and surgical care, including examination and treatment, ensuring humane veterinary support at an independent, senior level.

  • Assist the site lead veterinarian in ensuring company policies and practices align with relevant animal care and welfare regulations.

  • Train staff on animal health, welfare, and veterinary procedures related to laboratory animals.

  • Contribute to regulatory/administrative duties related to animal welfare, ensuring compliance with USDA, Home Office regulations, AAALAC, and client visits.

  • Serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or Ethical Review Panel (ERP) as needed.

  • Perform physical and ophthalmic examinations on laboratory animals as per protocols and SOP.

  • Provide scientific expertise on animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodologies to staff.

  • Attend scientific meetings, lead discussions, and contribute to the field of Laboratory Animal Medicine through publications and presentations.

  • Address animal care concerns, providing appropriate corrective action when necessary.

  • Offer advice on specialized areas such as anesthesia or ocular health.

  • Lead and complete assigned team projects.

  • Mentor junior veterinarians and technicians.

Education/Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary program or equivalent with ECFVG or PAVE certification.

  • A veterinary license in at least one state with the ability to obtain a license and USDA accreditation in the state within six months.

  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine is preferred.

Experience

  • 4-5 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine.

  • Knowledge of small and large animals used in research.

  • Experience with surgical models and complex anesthesia/analgesia protocols is preferred.

  • Experience in clinical and surgical management of canines and nonhuman primates is preferred.

  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
