Overall Job Purpose:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Oncology is a field-based medical professional with deep expertise in Oncology. This role requires a strong understanding of Lilly’s and competitor compounds, as well as the current trends and challenges within the therapeutic area. The MSL acts as a key point of contact between Lilly and scientific experts, facilitating scientific exchange and providing valuable insights that contribute to Lilly's research and commercialization strategies. This role covers two zones in India (West & South) and is ideal for someone based in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Chennai.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Scientific Expertise and Knowledge Sharing:

    • Engage in continuous learning to maintain expertise in Oncology and answer deep scientific questions.
    • Serve as a trusted resource for scientific experts, ensuring accurate, unbiased, and up-to-date information.
    • Foster relationships with scientific leaders and ensure customer satisfaction by offering high-quality medical and scientific support.
  • Customer Engagement and Scientific Support:

    • Use emotional intelligence and a deep understanding of customer needs to provide exceptional support.
    • Answer scientific inquiries by providing detailed disease-state and product information.
    • Connect scientific experts with relevant Lilly resources or internal teams to explore research opportunities or external collaborations.
  • Strategic Vision and Leadership:

    • Synthesize complex clinical data and communicate insights to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.
    • Provide solutions to customer queries, utilizing internal resources creatively and efficiently.
    • Contribute to Lilly’s medical strategy, ensuring internal collaboration and alignment with Lilly’s goals.
  • Territory Ownership and Planning:

    • Analyze, plan, and prioritize activities to maximize territory effectiveness.
    • Execute strategic plans and take accountability for achieving results in compliance with internal procedures and regulations.
    • Ensure a compliant approach in all interactions, upholding Lilly’s standards and governing laws.

Key Competencies & Selection Criteria:

  • Experience:

    • Previous MSL or field-based experience, particularly with scientific experts and key opinion leaders, is highly desired.
    • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a related field) with 2-3 years of relevant experience in clinical or therapeutic areas.
    • For candidates with 8+ years of relevant experience, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in health sciences is acceptable.
  • Skills:

    • Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to grasp complex scientific concepts.
    • Learning agility to effectively communicate large amounts of complex content concisely.
    • Excellent self-management, multitasking, and project management abilities.
    • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and high emotional intelligence.
    • Proficient in presentation skills, literature identification, and strategic thinking.
  • Communication:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey scientific information effectively.
    • Proficiency in using electronic communication tools and field-based resources.
