Position: Senior Clinical Coder

Role Overview:
Syneos Health is looking for an experienced Senior Clinical Coder to lead and manage coding activities across large, multicenter clinical trials. The role demands advanced technical expertise in medical coding tools, regulatory compliance, and team leadership, with a focus on data quality, efficiency, and accuracy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a lead coder for large, multicenter clinical trials, managing the end-to-end coding process.
  • Collaborate with sponsors on coding conventions, specifications, and decision-making processes.
  • Participate in protocol and database build processes to align with coding requirements.
  • Conduct trend analysis for quality control (QC) and consistency findings.
  • Mentor and lead junior coders, fostering skill development and adherence to best practices.
  • Oversee resource management, pricing, bidding, and development of coding tools.
  • Lead coding setup activities, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), dictionary versioning/reversion, and auto-coding algorithm definition.
  • Ensure coding deliverables meet Data Management requirements for Database Lock (DBL) processes.
  • Attend national and international meetings, representing Data Management/Coding interests.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BS/BA in Biological Sciences, Healthcare, or Clinical Research preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of strong hands-on medical coding experience.
    • Expertise in WHODrug coding and MedDRA (safety and non-safety coding).
    • Proven track record of leading coding efforts for large-scale studies.
    • Strong knowledge of drug safety, TMS (Thesaurus Management System), and reference sourcing.
    • Proficiency in dictionary management, coding algorithms, and QC processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with sponsors and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other professional tools.
  • Experience working in a matrix-structured organization preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
