Job Summary

The Specialty Oncology Clinical Pharmacist at St. Elizabeth Healthcare is responsible for providing direct patient care, particularly for patients using specialty medications. This position focuses on optimizing therapies, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring safe, cost-effective medication utilization. The pharmacist will work closely with patients, medical staff, and other departments to enhance the patient experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:

    • Review and monitor treatment medications for appropriateness, based on clinical and institutional guidelines, and patient-specific criteria.
    • Provide final professional review and verification of prescriptions to ensure accuracy and safety.
    • Offer counseling and recommend over-the-counter products, ensuring no pharmacologic or physiologic contraindications.
  • Leadership & Supervision:

    • Supervise and mentor pharmacy Interns and Technicians, ensuring adherence to ICARE values and the AIDET model.
    • Monitor the timely completion of tasks and encourage professional development among staff.
  • Inventory Management & Financial Oversight:

    • Manage medication inventory, ensuring products are ordered correctly and on time.
    • Contribute to meeting department budget goals through sound accounting practices.
  • Collaboration & Liaison:

    • Serve as a liaison to various departments, including Hospice, Meds to Beds, Social Services, and provider offices.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Professional Development:

    • Ensure adherence to all regulatory guidelines (State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, FDA, and The Joint Commission).
    • Maintain licensure, complete competency assessments, and stay current on pharmacy practice standards.

Education & Credentials:

  • Graduate from an NABP-accredited pharmacy college.
  • Current pharmacist license in the state of practice.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with current pharmacy practice standards (ASHP).
  • Previous pharmacy experience in oncology or specialty pharmacy preferred.
