Role Overview:

As a Specialist IS Architect at Amgen, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing information systems architectures to meet business needs. You will collaborate with teams to analyze requirements, create architectural designs, evaluate technology solutions, and ensure alignment with best practices and industry standards. Your expertise in system architecture will drive the development of scalable and secure IT solutions, contributing to Amgen’s mission to improve patient lives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of Single Sign-On Systems: Manage Amgen’s single sign-on environments, including Okta, Microsoft Azure, and multi-factor authentication services, ensuring robust solutions for internal and external partners.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the go-to expert for single sign-on technologies, communicating complex solutions to technical, managerial, and business teams.
  • Technology Leadership: Lead enterprise projects, including migrating on-premises WAM solutions to the cloud. Engineer and implement cloud and mobile authentication solutions.
  • System Monitoring and Maintenance: Track operational and performance statistics for systems, conduct preventive maintenance, and automate routine procedures. Collaborate with Managed Service Providers to review SLAs, KPIs, and ensure service effectiveness.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, design documents, and operational guidelines. Execute and follow through on tasks related to system ownership and compliance requests.
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Provide technical guidance to less experienced team members, improving team knowledge and processes through mentorship and training.
  • Audits and Compliance: Perform regular hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with internal standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience in Information Systems, or related field, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or related field, OR
  • Associate’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or related field.

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data to identify and address issues.
  • Experience supporting Identity Provisioning platforms.
  • Familiarity with Web Access Management (WAM) and Single Sign-On (SSO) technologies (Okta, Azure, Ping Federate, SAML, OAuth, OpenID/Connect).
  • Knowledge of multi-factor authentication and risk-based authentication methods.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in B2B architecture, application proxies, and reverse proxies.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with IS security and Agile methodology.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Microsoft, GCP, or AWS Cloud certification.
  • Identity Provisioning or Security Certification.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively with global, virtual teams.
  • Self-motivated, able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Team-oriented with a focus on achieving group goals.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
