About This Role

Job Purpose:

  • Serve as a senior therapy area expert, leading the delivery of assigned programs and projects within the account team while engaging directly with clients and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Create high-quality scientific content through thorough research, scientific writing, editing, and fact-checking, ensuring adherence to deadlines and project objectives across all formats of MedCom’s communication outputs.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of relevant therapy areas, client products, and their objectives.
  • Take ownership of projects, independently resolving complex technical issues to ensure excellent delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Scientific Team Lead to ensure quality delivery, client satisfaction, and account growth.
  • Liaise effectively with clients and external authors/opinion leaders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship within projects to ensure efficient delivery and high-quality outputs.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s service offerings and processes.
  • Play a significant role in new business development activities.

Key Accountabilities

Client Interaction/Relationship:

  • Act as a senior content expert for assigned accounts, proactively building client relationships and ensuring satisfaction and profitability in collaboration with the Scientific Team Lead and Account Management.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical and process challenges in partnership with the Scientific Team Lead.
  • Recognize opportunities for follow-on business, developing strategies to secure new business agreements alongside Account Management.
  • Effectively manage project scope changes and maintain high client satisfaction through all interactions.
  • Engage in discussions with clients to manage timelines and expectations, confidently negotiating as necessary (excluding budgetary matters).

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Ensure informed and appropriate client discussions by understanding departmental service offerings.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of client products and therapy areas, serving as a consultative support resource.
  • Familiarize oneself with relevant industry guidelines (e.g., Good Publications Practice) and promote adherence within the team.
  • Proactively apply specialist knowledge in proposal and pitch development, taking a leading role in presentations.
  • Share expertise through mentoring and training initiatives.

Project Execution and Success:

  • Write and edit high-quality scientific content while managing project schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Monitor project scope and progress, flagging any changes to the project lead.
  • Interpret scientific data accurately and maintain alignment with client objectives.
  • Conduct necessary research and foster positive relationships with opinion leaders/authors.
  • Identify and resolve project delivery issues, ensuring proactive communication with the team.
  • Mentor and guide team members while maintaining adherence to departmental SOPs.

Skills

  • Proficient in advanced computer and internet skills, including MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and technical expertise in specialized therapy areas.
  • Competency in scientific writing, proofreading, and copyediting.
  • Effective project management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships.
  • Strong client focus and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and work collaboratively in a matrix environment.
  • Proficient in English.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Preferred 8-12 years of experience in a similar role within a medical communications agency.
  • Education: Degree and advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or Medicine (BSc, BA, PharmD, PhD, MD).
