Position Overview:

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Oncology will serve as a trusted scientific partner for Bayer, representing the company in the medical community. The MSL will disseminate and educate on scientific data across Bayer products throughout the product lifecycle. This position requires proactive engagement with healthcare providers (HCPs), major medical associations, and academic centers, with the goal of establishing long-term scientific and strategic relationships. The role focuses on ensuring safe and effective use of Bayer products, educating on disease states, and offering scientific support.

This role covers the Great North Territory (Upper MI, WI, MN, ND, SD, NE, IA). Candidates must be based in the territory.


Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Expertise:

  • Complete core training and achieve Therapeutic Area (TA) certification.
  • Stay up to date on franchise data and MSL role certifications.
  • Lead training initiatives (e.g., journal clubs) and team discussions.
  • Attend and report on medical conferences and meetings of importance.
  • Identify educational gaps and provide recommendations for resource development.

External HCP & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build robust, long-term relationships with Thought Leaders (TLs), HCPs, research sites, and stakeholders.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders, including societies, associations, and emerging TL groups.
  • Develop local strategies aligned with Bayer’s medical plan, driving medical strategy within the territory.

Education:

  • Deliver educational presentations to external stakeholders and customers.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and balanced responses to medical inquiries.
  • Adhere to SOP and FDA guidelines in distributing scientific information.

Research:

  • Support clinical trial teams and investigator-initiated research (IIR).
  • Assist with feasibility, initiation visits, and study support for Bayer-sponsored trials.

Insights & Collaboration:

  • Generate HCP insights to inform medical strategy and tactics.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and lead cross-functional projects.
  • Mentor MSLs and contribute to best practice discussions within the team.

New Ways of Working (Data Collection & Analysis):

  • Champion data-driven approaches and omnichannel engagement methods.
  • Use analytics to enhance customer engagement and territory planning.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a scientific or clinical setting or within the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or related roles.
  • MSL experience required.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to critically evaluate medical literature and communicate scientific data effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive a company vehicle.
  • Willing to travel 50+% of the time.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree (M.D., PhD, PharmD, etc.) or equivalent in health sciences or related field.
  • Experience in oncology preferred.
  • Familiarity with FDA and OIG requirements.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $140,500 to $223,600, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.
  • Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement plans, PTO, sick leave, and more.
  • Bonus and commission potential, if applicable.
