Job Overview

The Senior Manager of Safety will develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety programs across all global project sites, including Lexington, Sellersville, and other North American locations. This role is pivotal in achieving a zero-accident culture by ensuring compliance with safety regulations, fostering a proactive safety mindset, and minimizing risks to personnel and the environment. The Senior Manager will collaborate with project teams to identify hazards, conduct safety audits, and provide training and support, ensuring safety protocols are integrated into all phases of project execution. By leveraging best practices and innovative solutions, the Senior Manager will drive continuous improvement in safety performance, enhancing the overall success and sustainability of the organization’s global projects.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Deputy General Manager (Corporate Projects)
  • Direct Reports: Individual contributor role with potential for additional positions as the role expands.

Experience

  • 10-15 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry (API & formulation).
  • Active involvement in safety improvement initiatives; developing and executing health and safety plans according to legal guidelines.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and laws through inspections of employees and operations.
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and legal adherence.
  • Prepare and review Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) for routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery for unsafe conditions and recommend improvements.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Prepare and present construction-related safety courses.
  • Motivate the workforce and maintain high morale regarding EHS aspects.
  • Assist site management with EHS issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company EHS requirements and applicable legal standards.
  • Organize health and safety training programs for employees and contractors, maintaining records.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of vehicles, equipment, tools, and PPE, following up for corrective actions.
  • Ensure workplace compliance with health and safety and welfare needs.
  • Present health and safety matters and accident prevention strategies.
  • Provide training in awareness and skills, including induction and toolbox talks.
  • Support the analysis of all change controls for safety impact and verify recommendations.
  • Conduct Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews for new installations or major modifications.
  • Implement and maintain Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems for safe equipment isolation.
  • Train personnel on work permit systems and monitor critical tasks.
  • Ensure safety measures for height work, including lifelines and safety belts.
  • Oversee excavation safety and monitor confined space work.
  • Inspect and ensure proper guarding of equipment and machinery.

Qualifications

  • B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or relevant certifications are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with quality certification standards like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, etc.
