Position Title: Senior Director, Discovery Toxicology
Location: Office-Based (with potential remote work options)

Position Overview:

Lilly is seeking a highly experienced toxicology leader for its Advanced Molecule Design (AMD) group. The Senior Director, Discovery Toxicology will lead toxicology efforts for oncology drug discovery programs, from early discovery through to IND submission. This position requires deep scientific expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure toxicological risks are properly identified, evaluated, and mitigated.

Responsibilities:

Toxicology Strategy and Execution:

  • Lead the design and oversight of toxicology studies (in vitro and in vivo) to assess on-target and off-target toxicities.
  • Conduct in-depth literature reviews to inform toxicology strategy for cancer biology and drug modalities.
  • Implement early-stage screening methods (e.g., CEREP panel, hERG, in silico models) to identify and mitigate toxicity risks.
  • Lead discussions on clinical risk vs benefit, portfolio-level strategy for new targets and modalities.
  • Manage relationships with global toxicology CROs and work to enhance partnerships for timely execution.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and manage the oncology toxicology team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Mentor team members, assign projects, and facilitate problem-solving across drug development stages.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with discovery teams (e.g., DMPK, Chemistry, CMC, Pharmacology) to integrate toxicology strategy and study designs into broader project goals.
  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams to translate toxicology findings into actionable insights for drug development.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Lead the team in presenting toxicology findings in a clear, organized manner for leadership and core project teams.
  • Ensure that toxicology data supports IND submissions, writing and reviewing IND reports as needed.

Innovation and Improvement:

  • Identify and champion process improvements to enhance toxicology assessment accuracy and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Propose technological advancements to accelerate drug development timelines.

Basic Requirements:

  • Education: Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MSc) in Toxicology or related discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in Toxicology within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in leading toxicology teams through early discovery to IND submission.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Expertise in regulatory requirements for IND-enabling studies.
  • Skills: Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $139,500 - $246,400, depending on experience and qualifications.
