Job Title: Senior Director, Clinical Data & Insights

Introduction to the Role

The Senior Director, Clinical Data & Insights, is a pivotal member of the Operational Data Strategy (ODS) leadership team. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a performance management framework for Clinical Data and Insights (CDI), providing broad support across Clinical Operations. You will directly support key transformation initiatives across the organization, necessitating strong stakeholder management and leadership skills. You will be accountable for the strategic direction of performance management across Clinical Data & Insights and beyond.

Accountabilities

  • Strategic Direction: Develop and implement performance management frameworks across the Clinical Data & Insights organization, with broader support across Clinical Operations.
  • Transformation Initiatives: Directly support key transformation initiatives involving multi-year investments (>$10MM), ensuring alignment between transformation demands and business sustainability.
  • Strategy Development: Accountable for targeted components of strategy development across all segments of Clinical Data & Insights.
  • Performance Management: Oversee the strategic direction of performance management and performance-related analytics components of the operational data function.
  • Roadmap Definition: Define the roadmap for performance management and key transformation initiatives to adopt emerging digital technologies and operational data science for business insights.
  • Innovation Leadership: Lead efforts to innovate and leverage cutting-edge technologies for standardization, automation, and informed decision-making, focusing on insights and performance reporting.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure the management of performance data follows compliant and GxP-considered approaches, embedding quality by design.
  • Business Understanding: Maintain a broad understanding of AstraZeneca's business needs from both financial health and operational perspectives.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Influence senior stakeholders, negotiate with key partners, and provide performance management and transformation leadership.
  • Partnership Development: Effectively partner with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Dynamic Organization: Build a nimble performance management organization that adapts dynamically to business priorities.
  • Talent Development: Responsible for the talent development strategy within the segment.
  • Resource Planning: Advise on resource planning, allocation, and portfolio prioritization for Biopharmaceutical Clinical Operations.
  • Budget Management: Contribute to budgetary constraints through mid-term and long-range planning processes, influencing senior management.
  • Operational Data Initiatives: Contribute to or lead pivotal operational data initiatives.
  • Global Governance: Contribute to global governance of external partners.
  • External Representation: Represent AstraZeneca at external events.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Biological Sciences, Data, IT, Policy, Compliance, Legal, or related fields with an understanding of data and analytics.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 7+ years with a Master's, or 5+ years with a PhD in consulting, business operations, reporting, or data management.
  • Proven leadership experience with multiple data collection and analytical/reporting technologies.
  • Strong track record of building strategy and managing successful innovation initiatives.
  • Leadership skills that promote motivation and empowerment to achieve individual, team, and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to manage priorities, allocate resources, and set performance targets in a global environment.
  • Strategic influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and foster cross-functional collaboration to enhance performance.
  • Skills in managing risks and roadblocks in a dynamic environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry trends.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large-scale business improvement efforts that create new value.
  • Experience with the latest digital technologies related to data collection, analytics, and reporting.
