Summary:

The Senior Data Scientist provides data science and analytical support to Pharmacovigilance & Patient Safety (PS&PV), enabling safety analysis and regulatory compliance through advanced insights and data-driven solutions. This role requires independent project management, technical expertise, and leadership in developing innovative tools and predictive models to improve operational efficiency and risk management in safety surveillance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver data-driven solutions and tools for:

    • Aggregate reports: PSUR, DSUR, PQR, APR

    • Signal detection and risk-based operational monitoring

    • Patient-focused protocol design and outcome tracking

    • Budget forecasting and resource/vendor management

  • Develop advanced statistical and ML models to detect anomalies, outliers, and procedural errors.

  • Translate business challenges into analytical problems; create actionable insights through data visualization, ML, and statistical techniques.

  • Design and manage end-to-end analytics projects independently.

  • Track and improve business KPIs through trend analysis and performance monitoring.

  • Lead development of innovative solutions using structured/unstructured data.

  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams (IT, clinical, safety, regulatory).

  • Mentor junior data scientists and support leadership in strategic planning.

  • Represent the data science team in audits and regulatory inspections.

  • Advocate the integration of new technologies to enhance safety analytics and efficiency.


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering (Biotech, IT, CS), Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences.

  • MBA/PhD from reputed institutes also considered.

Experience:

  • 10–15 years in data science or analytics with strong track record in KPIs and model building.

  • 1–3 years in Pharma, CRO, or Life Sciences (preferred).


Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in Python/R (advanced level), with working knowledge of SQL.

  • Strong experience in:

    • Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Text Mining, Neural Networks

    • Time Series Analysis, Image Processing

  • Comfortable working with big data ecosystems (Data Lake, Mart, Warehouse).

  • Experience with clinical and safety data, and relevant database structures.

  • Ability to code, design, and manage ML algorithms independently.

  • Strong project management and leadership abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and customer-focused mindset.

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Effective under pressure with a proactive and flexible approach.

  • Ability to act as deputy for Sr. Manager/Head of Data Science or Analytics when needed.

  • Promote continuous innovation and adoption of advanced analytics across pharmacovigilance operations.
