Job Overview

As a Senior Clinical Veterinarian, you will provide high-level veterinary care for laboratory animals, offering expert advice and training to ensure compliance with animal welfare standards. This role is based in Greenfield, IN, reporting to the Associate Director/Site Lead Veterinarian.


Position Summary

The Senior Clinical Veterinarian will:

  • Provide independent medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, ensuring humane treatment and support.
  • Assist with ensuring that animal care and welfare practices are in compliance with regulations, including USDA, Home Office, AAALAC, and client requirements.
  • Mentor and train staff on animal health and veterinary procedures.
  • Participate in regulatory/administrative duties, including IACUC or ERP involvement.
  • Conduct physical examinations, ophthalmic exams, and other veterinary assessments of laboratory animals.
  • Provide scientific expertise on animal health, biology, and research methodology to staff.
  • Attend scientific meetings and contribute to the field through publications and presentations.
  • Report concerns regarding animal care and help resolve issues with corrective actions.
  • Lead and participate in team projects and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or equivalent.
  • Experience: 4-5 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine, with experience in surgical models and complex anesthesia protocols preferred. Experience with canines and nonhuman primates is a plus.
  • Licensure: A veterinary license in at least one state and the ability to obtain USDA accreditation within 6 months. Board certification or eligibility in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is desired.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in animal health management and laboratory procedures.
    • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with various species.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to mentor junior staff.
    • Proficient in regulatory compliance related to animal welfare.
