About the Role
Labcorp is seeking a Scientist I to join our team in Saitama, Japan. This role involves troubleshooting and leading initiatives to solve scientific challenges, particularly related to flow cytometry assays. You will play a leadership role in developing scientific approaches, providing technical consultation, and assisting with troubleshooting and performance improvement. This position is ideal for someone with strong scientific and technical skills, and the ability to support both operational and validation staff in achieving scientific excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex scientific problems with assays or instrumentation, providing leadership to resolve issues.

  • Apply and interpret scientific theories, concepts, techniques, and regulatory requirements in clinical studies.

  • Provide consultation to scientific and operational staff on technical issues, ensuring quality and compliance.

  • Manage troubleshooting of flow cytometry assay transfers from validation to operations to ensure effective scientific performance.

  • Provide technical training to both validation and operational staff as required.

  • Offer scientific consultation to departments outside the lab (e.g., Project Management).

  • Contribute to long-term planning and the development of technical policies for the department.

  • Manage relationships with scientific vendors to address issues and improve capabilities.

  • Participate in client visits and audits, ensuring excellent communication and client satisfaction.

  • Regularly read scientific literature to remain current with trends and developments in the field.

  • Present findings to clients and professional groups, and represent Labcorp at scientific meetings and conferences.

Education/Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific field preferred. MS with relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience

  • 1-2 years post-doctoral experience within the scientific area of expertise, with additional relevant experience acceptable in place of the PhD.

  • Significant experience in flow cytometry and associated data analysis.

  • Proven experience in conducting research, interpreting data, and writing scientific reports.

  • A track record of successful method development and scientific presentations.

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation, system software, Microsoft applications, and laboratory statistics.

  • Effective communication skills, especially in English and Japanese, with the ability to collaborate with technical staff, business development, peers, and clients.

  • Strong attention to detail and scientific data interpretation.

  • Proven problem prevention, detection, and resolution capabilities.
