Position Overview:
The Scientific Communications Specialist within the Global Scientific Communications team supports the production and delivery of high-quality documents, focusing on regulatory and publication documents. This role ensures that documents adhere to international standards, follow internal guidelines, and are delivered on time.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Scientific Communications Document Support

    • Editing and Quality Review:

      • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality regulatory and publication documents that meet international standards of written English.
      • Correct errors in grammar, style, formatting, and syntax. Ensure logical flow and consistency of content.
      • Follow style guides/templates provided by the team and Lilly's internal standards.
      • Verify data against source files for accuracy and consistency across related documents.
    • Document Finalization/Publishing Services:

      • Produce final eCTD-compliant PDFs of medical regulatory documents using publishing software.
      • Review and format Word files to meet compliance requirements, ensuring all regulatory requirements are included in the source file.
      • Convert Word files into PDFs and review/edit them to ensure regulatory standards are met.
    • General Expectations:

      • Maintain a strong customer focus and manage activities efficiently to meet deadlines.
      • Coach and mentor new specialists or others needing development in core areas.
      • Coordinate with vendors if outsourcing activities are necessary.
  2. Process Efficiency and Technology Advancement

    • Maintain proficiency in software, tools, processes, and workflows relevant to document delivery.
    • Introduce innovative tools and processes to streamline team workflows and improve effectiveness.
    • Suggest enhancements to document processes and tools to reduce redundancy and improve cross-organizational practices.
  3. Therapeutic & Disease State Management

    • Stay informed about key priorities, communication strategies, and product information across therapeutic areas.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of disease state information, trial designs, and data to apply in document production.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in editing, proofreading, and word processing tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Cognitive Abilities: Strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, and critical thinking.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams and manage vendor relationships.
  • Software Proficiency: High-level end-user skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural and geographically dispersed team.

Other Information/Additional Preferences:

  • Knowledge of editing and proofreading tools and techniques is preferred.
  • Certification in BELS (Board of Editors in the Life Sciences) is a plus.
  • Understanding of medical and statistical terminology and a willingness to expand scientific knowledge.
  • Experience with scientific literature search and retrieval is advantageous.
  • Travel: Limited travel, approximately up to 10%.
