Candidate Profile:

  • Ideal candidates will be at the PhD/MS level, preferably with a toxicology/product safety background.

Major Function:

The safety testing program includes both in-vitro and clinical test methodologies. This technical position requires in-depth knowledge of toxicology, safety risk assessments, problem-solving skills, and task execution related to the approval of raw materials and finished formulations before market launch.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Safety Assessments: Conduct robust safety assessments meeting global regulations on raw materials and finished formulations for products (e.g., Skin, Hair, Make-up, Fragrance, including OTC products).
  • Evaluation: Evaluate ingredients, raw materials, and formulations for internal and external labs based on risk assessments and communicate safety approvals through product-specific meetings.
  • Compliance: Assist in compiling and reviewing Cosmetic Safety Reports for compliance with EU and other global regulations.
  • Collaboration: Interact with various groups within Safety, Regulatory, Claims, Microbiology (SRCM) to ensure the development and execution of supporting data (in vitro and/or clinical safety studies) to substantiate the safety of raw materials and finished formulations.
  • Literature Searches: Conduct literature searches as needed to generate robust safety assessments.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate recommendations on various safety issues to both scientific and non-scientific audiences within the organization.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: M.S./Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Toxicology or closely related field.
  • Experience: 3 years in cosmetics/personal care/consumer healthcare industries.
  • Expertise: General toxicology concepts, including skin/eye irritation, skin sensitization, genotoxicity, and phototoxicity.
  • Risk Assessment: Extensive knowledge and proficiency in risk assessment principles and practices.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • OTC Products: Experience working with OTC products.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Detail-Oriented: Skills in analyzing, reporting, and documenting information with attention to detail.
  • Independent Worker: Ability to work independently in a matrix environment both as a team member and leader.
