Job Description: Safety Specialist

Purpose of the Position:

The Safety Specialist is pivotal in advancing the company's commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality. This role focuses on the strategic implementation of safety measures across all operational areas, aiming for zero harm and fostering a culture of safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Development: Design, implement, and assess the effectiveness of safety programs in compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations and industry best practices.
  • Training Coordination: Organize and conduct employee safety training sessions.
  • Risk Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend safety measures to mitigate hazards associated with work methods, practices, or processes.
  • Workplace Inspections: Inspect and assess workplace tasks, equipment, and behavior to ensure personnel safety.
  • Training Records Management: Maintain and update employee training records and development paths.
  • Guidance to Project Leaders: Provide advice on safety risks and opportunities within their operational areas.
  • Incident Investigation: Assist project leaders with investigations following incidents and accidents.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about changes in regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Pursue personal growth and improvement opportunities.
  • New Employee Integration: Oversee initial training and integration of new hires into their roles.
  • PPE Management: Assess and manage personal protective equipment (PPE) needs and inventory.
  • Risk Monitoring: Monitor, coach, and alert management to high-risk behaviors among field teams.
  • Proactive Intervention: Identify potential hazards and intervene to prevent incidents.
  • Risk Assessment: Lead or participate in formal risk assessment and mitigation processes.
  • Field Health Sampling: Conduct health sampling in the field and advise management on necessary controls.
  • Policy Development: Assist in developing policies, plans, and procedures related to safe production.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Lead efforts to continuously improve safety practices.
  • Safety Manager Support: Shadow and fill in for the Safety Manager as needed.
  • Other Duties: Perform other safety-related duties as directed by the Safety Manager.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with fewer than three moving violations in the past three years
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings
  • Capable of lifting at least 40 lbs
