Position Available: Department Risk Control Specialist

Overview:

San Bernardino County's Department of Risk Management is seeking Safety and Risk Control Specialists. These roles are responsible for developing and implementing safety, health, and loss control programs across various county departments. The specialists will oversee the creation and execution of department safety programs, write procedures related to risk management and compliance, measure performance, perform safety inspections, and recommend corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement department-specific safety and loss prevention programs.
  • Write and maintain programs and procedures related to risk management, loss prevention, and environmental compliance.
  • Measure and monitor safety program goals and objectives.
  • Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Advise on accident prevention and safety measures, and manage safety meetings.
  • Investigate claims of injury and property damage, including inspecting accident scenes, collecting evidence, and analyzing data to determine causes.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of 2.5% up to the maximum step.

  • Hybrid telework schedule and 9/80 work schedule options may be available.

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must pass background check, fingerprinting, verification of employment history, physical exam, and drug test.
  • Valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance required.
  • Travel within the county may be necessary.
  • San Bernardino County does not sponsor visas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of recent experience in loss prevention, regulatory compliance, occupational health, safety, and risk control.

Option 2:

  • 30 semester (45 quarter) units of college coursework from an accredited institution.
  • Four years of recent experience in loss prevention, regulatory compliance, occupational health, safety, and risk control.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of public sector management, federal, state, and local laws, and standards related to environmental health and safety.
  • Experience in workforce training, industrial hygiene, statistical methods, and applied ergonomics.
  • Skills in ASHRAE standards, Cal/OSHA regulations, loss prevention techniques, training, technical writing, and use of modern office equipment.
  • Ability to conduct investigations, research and interpret technical information, and communicate effectively.

  • Occupational Safety and Health Technician
  • Associate of Risk Management
  • Associate Safety Professional
  • Construction Safety and Health Technician
