Role Overview

The Medical Advisor – CVRM plays a dual external and internal role to deliver medical and clinical expertise in Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism therapeutic areas. This position fosters strong scientific relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and drives medical leadership within the brand strategy and lifecycle management.


Key Responsibilities

1. External Medical & Scientific Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with opinion leaders (OLs) and other key external stakeholders.

  • Allocate 50% of time to field-based activities, engaging with HCPs and OLs to promote scientific exchange.

  • Identify and collaborate with experts for advisory boards, educational events, and speaker opportunities.

  • Discuss and facilitate External Sponsored Research (ESR) and Real-World Evidence (RWE) projects.

  • Deliver balanced, substantiated responses to unsolicited inquiries about AstraZeneca’s pipeline or unapproved uses of existing products.

2. Medical & Scientific Support for Internal Stakeholders

  • Provide insights to internal teams regarding local clinical practices, unmet needs, and competitive intelligence.

  • Develop and implement the local medical plan to align with the brand strategy and meet identified gaps.

  • Deliver medical training to sales teams and ensure readiness for product launches.

  • Act as an internal expert for compliance reviews of promotional materials.

3. Clinical and Lifecycle Management Support

  • Collaborate with clinical and marketing teams to address unmet medical needs through non-interventional studies (NIS) or registries.

  • Provide input into global clinical trial feasibility and support local investigator selection.

  • Contribute to the preparation of materials for key congresses, publications, and advisory boards.

4. Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure all promotional activities align with company SOPs, IFPMA codes, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain confidentiality and proactively report any potential breaches of conduct.

  • Participate in audits and demonstrate adherence to AstraZeneca’s compliance frameworks.

5. Development and Training

  • Commit to continuous learning and development in therapeutic areas relevant to CVRM.

  • Complete required training programs through AstraZeneca’s Medical Academy.

  • Reflect on customer interactions and integrate feedback for self-improvement.


Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Medicine, Pharmacy, or Biology).

  • Experience:

    • Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

    • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills.

    • Proven project management capabilities.

  • Skills: Excellent communication, planning, and organizational abilities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (M.D.) or PhD in a relevant scientific field.

  • Extensive understanding of regulatory, technical, and medical aspects of biopharmaceuticals.

  • Expertise in Cardiovascular, Renal, or Metabolism therapeutic areas.
