What You’ll Do

Job Description

The Medical Affairs Manager (MAM) is an internal and externally facing role that provides medical and clinical expertise in priority therapeutic areas. This role drives AstraZeneca’s scientific leadership by collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to design and implement medical strategies aligned with brand objectives. The MAM plays a key role in engaging healthcare professionals (HCPs), facilitating advisory boards, providing medical training, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Scientific Leadership and Medical Expertise

  • Continuously update and maintain deep scientific knowledge in respiratory and immunology therapeutic areas.

  • Develop and execute the local medical plan in alignment with the brand strategy to address unmet medical needs.

  • Support pre-launch activities for new products, including developing and executing medical plans at least two years prior to launch.

  • Provide medical insights and expertise for marketing strategies, clinical trials, and lifecycle management.

2. External Engagement and Scientific Exchange

  • Dedicate 40% of time in the field to engage with HCPs, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and professional societies.

  • Share emerging scientific data and facilitate balanced discussions on AstraZeneca products and pipeline.

  • Support investigator-initiated studies (IIS) and non-interventional studies (NIS) to address local medical and scientific needs.

  • Represent AstraZeneca at national and international congresses and HCP meetings to gather insights and disseminate new knowledge.

3. Medical Support for Internal Teams

  • Provide medical training to sales and marketing teams on disease areas, product profiles, and clinical data.

  • Serve as a medical reviewer and ensure promotional materials comply with regulatory guidelines and internal SOPs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Regulatory, Market Access, and Marketing) to support product registrations, patient support programs, and market research.

4. Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure all activities adhere to AstraZeneca’s code of conduct, local regulations, and industry standards.

  • Support pharmacovigilance activities and ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP).

  • Actively report potential breaches of compliance or ethical guidelines.

5. Evidence Generation and Research Collaboration

  • Identify opportunities for company-sponsored research and oversee study design and implementation.

  • Partner with investigators to develop capabilities for conducting medical studies.

  • Drive the publication of completed studies to advance scientific understanding and support brand objectives.

6. Personal and Professional Development

  • Participate in AstraZeneca’s Medical Academy and complete required training programs.

  • Develop a personal growth plan aligned with career aspirations and organizational goals.

  • Act as a mentor for Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and other team members to foster talent development.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Quantitative Metrics

  • Completion of medical training programs and alignment with pre-launch timelines.

  • Number of HCP engagements, advisory boards, and publications delivered against the plan.

  • Timely and accurate responses to medical inquiries (within five business days).

Qualitative Metrics

  • Feedback from HCPs, internal stakeholders, and event participants.

  • Compliance with AstraZeneca’s policies and industry standards (e.g., no audit findings or ethical breaches).

  • Effectiveness of training programs as measured by participant feedback and competency assessments.


What You Bring

Essential Qualifications

  • Medical degree or advanced scientific degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) in a relevant field.

  • Expertise in respiratory and immunology therapeutic areas.

  • Proven ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Fluency in English and ability to travel as required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Strong project management and team leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and the healthcare environment in Vietnam.
