Position Overview:
The R&D Associate Director of Microbiology will provide scientific direction and leadership in research and development, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support selected product development projects. This role involves leading a team of laboratory scientists and technicians, coordinating with external contract laboratories, and overseeing department budgets and equipment. You will also present programs at senior management meetings, ensuring the scientific integrity and quality of all data produced.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage research projects, identifying opportunities for improvement to achieve business goals.
  • Oversee project timelines and milestones, ensuring they are met.
  • Review and approve documentation and data, including test method development and validation, claims support, and research reports.
  • Build and maintain organizational and technical capabilities, coordinating resources to achieve group and business objectives while mitigating risks.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership, ensuring high-quality and timely results.
  • Develop and review project plans for new product development and life-cycle management of existing products.
  • Ensure compliance with industry, company, and regulatory expectations and requirements for safety and efficacy.
  • Lead internal and external audits and collaborate with R&D teams to create innovative solutions and processes.
  • Maintain company policies, procedures, and departmental budget.
  • Communicate business-related issues or opportunities to the next management level.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures related to Health, Safety, and Environmental practices.
  • Participate actively in the Advanced Evaluation (R&D Testing Group) Leadership Team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: M.A./M.S. in Microbiology or Biology with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry is required.
  • Experience and Skills:
    • Required:
      • Laboratory management experience in a BSL-2 lab.
      • GxP management experience, including audit participation.
    • Preferred:
      • A minimum of 7 years of experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, and/or diagnostic development.
      • Experience in the Medical Device industry and with medical or industrial antimicrobial applications.
      • Extensive knowledge of surgical site infection and antibacterial technologies.

Travel Requirements:
This position is based in Raritan, NJ, and may require up to 10% domestic and international travel.

Compensation:
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $135,500 to $223,000. This role is eligible for an annual performance bonus, designed to reward individual and corporate performance over a calendar year. Bonuses are discretionary and awarded on an individual basis.
