About the Role:

The Senior Clinical Coding Specialist will provide leadership and management in the area of clinical trial data coding. This includes overseeing the dictionary administration activities, ensuring consistent and high-quality coding across multiple trials, and maintaining the integrity of coding documentation. You will be responsible for managing coding deliverables for clinical trials and contributing to process improvements, system updates, and dictionary maintenance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Coding Leadership:

    • Provide leadership in clinical coding across multiple programs and therapeutic areas.

    • Ensure coding is performed consistently and meets all quality standards.

  • Dictionary Administration:

    • Lead synonym review and reconciliation processes.

    • Oversee dictionary version upgrades at the portfolio level and maintain accurate coding glossaries.

  • Troubleshooting and Support:

    • Address coding issues and collaborate with database developers, IT support, and peers to resolve challenges.

    • Communicate with CTT members and other stakeholders about coding-related processes and system updates.

  • Mentorship and Training:

    • Act as a mentor and coach for team members, contributing to their professional development.

    • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for coding and assist in creating/updating coding documents, conventions, and training materials.

  • Non-Clinical Initiatives:

    • Contribute to process improvement initiatives related to coding systems, updates, and quality improvement.


Key Performance Indicators:

  • Deliverable Timeliness and Quality:

    • Ensuring coding is completed accurately and on time, meeting all deliverable requirements.

  • Issue Resolution:

    • Ability to detect and resolve quality issues or inconsistencies in coded data effectively.

  • Stakeholder Communication:

    • Effectively represent coding processes in meetings and communications with stakeholders.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Work Experience:

    • At least 4 years of experience in drug development, with 3 years in clinical coding.

    • Expertise in coding technologies and medical terminology.

  • Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

    • Experience in clinical data management, data governance, and project management.

    • Ability to adapt to changes in coding systems and methodologies.

  • Languages:

    • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
