Why Patients Need You
Pfizer's mission is to deliver breakthroughs that transform patients’ lives. At the core of this mission is Research and Development, where cutting-edge science and technology converge to create therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether ensuring drug safety, supporting clinical trials, or advancing discovery sciences, you will contribute to the innovation and delivery of best-in-class medicines to patients worldwide.

We are seeking a Process Modeler to join the Engineering Sciences group within Chemical Research and Development (CRD) in Chennai, India. CRD is part of Pfizer Research and Development’s Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule organization. This role involves working on the development of process technologies for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing, ranging from small-scale synthesis to commercial production.

You will collaborate with chemists, engineers, analytical experts, and crystallization specialists to support the timely progression of new chemical entities in Pfizer’s portfolio. Leveraging your expertise in computational methodologies and process modeling, you will design, optimize, and scale up manufacturing processes while enhancing Pfizer’s process development capabilities.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical expert in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multiphysics models, shaping the strategy for process systems engineering to accelerate robust API development.
  • Develop and apply advanced multiphysics models for complex processes such as multiphase mixing, crystallization, and drying.
  • Design hybrid data-driven and first-principle models to optimize process scale-up and define process design spaces.
  • Use parameter estimation, sensitivity analysis, and error propagation techniques to analyze process deviations and enhance performance.
  • Develop digital twins and computational workflows for process and equipment modeling.
  • Interface with internal teams and external collaborators, including academic institutions, to drive innovation and share knowledge.
  • Present findings, author impactful publications, and contribute to the scientific community.
  • Plan, prioritize, and communicate work effectively to project teams, managers, and governance bodies.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with a preference for Lattice Boltzmann techniques and particle dynamics.
  • Experience with multiphase flows is desirable.
  • Proficiency in tools like M-Star and ANSYS Fluent is preferred.
  • Scientific programming skills, particularly in Python, are advantageous.
  • Experience with process simulators such as Aspen Plus or gPROMS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Experimental Design, Multivariate Analysis, and Bayesian Optimization is desirable.
  • Proven track record of working in multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality results.
