Job Description

Role Overview:

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for delivering effective training programs to new joiners, ensuring their proficiency in medical coding concepts, particularly in the Surgery specialty. The role involves monitoring trainee performance, providing structured feedback, and collaborating with team leads to meet quality and productivity targets.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Training Delivery:

    • Conduct comprehensive training sessions on medical coding concepts, guidelines, and client-specific specifications.
    • Develop and utilize varied training strategies to accommodate different learning styles.
  2. Performance Monitoring:

    • Track trainees’ productivity and quality output during On-the-Job Training (OJT) phases.
    • Ensure trainees meet defined glide path/ramp-up targets.
  3. Continuous Feedback:

    • Provide structured and constructive feedback to trainees on coding accuracy and productivity.
    • Conduct one-on-one sessions to address repeated errors and improve performance.
  4. Knowledge Updates:

    • Educate trainees on the latest updates in medical coding standards and practices.
    • Share client-specific updates and ensure adherence to guidelines.
  5. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with Team Leads to evaluate trainee performance and provide inputs for early confirmations.
    • Pass on Quality Control (QC) feedback to trainees effectively.

Job Specification

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Medical Coding, specializing in Surgery.
    • Experience in coaching and training within a medical coding context.
  • Education and Certification:

    • Must hold a valid certification in Medical Coding, such as CPC, CCS, COC, or AHIMA.
    • Graduation in any discipline is required.
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of medical coding standards and Surgery-specific guidelines.
    • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills.
    • Ability to adapt training strategies to different learner needs.
