Role Description Overview:

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for training new joiners on medical coding concepts, ensuring they are aligned with client specifications and industry standards. The role includes monitoring trainees’ progress, providing continuous feedback, and ensuring trainees meet productivity and quality targets. This position is critical for the ramp-up and development of medical coding skills in the team.


Key Responsibilities:

Training and Development:

  • Effectively train new joiners on medical coding concepts, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Educate trainees on the client-specific coding guidelines and updates, ensuring they understand and apply them correctly.
  • Monitor trainees’ productivity and quality output as per the OJT (on-the-job training) glide path/ramp-up targets.
  • Provide structured, continuous feedback to trainees to help them improve performance.
  • Conduct one-on-one sessions with trainees to address repeated errors and improve their coding accuracy.

Quality Assurance and Feedback:

  • Ensure that trainees adhere to both process and quality requirements set by the organization and client.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to team leads about the productivity and quality of trainees.
  • Pass on Quality Control (QC) feedback to trainees in an effective and actionable manner.

Collaboration with Team Leads:

  • Assist team leads in evaluating and confirming trainees for early confirmation based on their performance.
  • Support team leads in ensuring that all trainees meet the required productivity and quality standards.

Job Specification:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in medical coding with a specialty in ED (Emergency Department) Facility.
  • Extensive experience in coaching and training new joiners as per the defined processes.

Certification:

  • Must have a valid medical coding certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).

Education:

  • Any graduate with a background in healthcare or related fields.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of medical coding concepts, industry standards, and client-specific guidelines.
  • Expertise in delivering training sessions and providing feedback to improve trainee performance.
  • Ability to identify common coding errors and provide corrective action.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to adapt to new coding updates and train others effectively.
