The Protein Structure Modeling Expert position at Pfizer is designed for a specialist with a strong background in protein design, computational analysis, and AI/ML-based property prediction. This role focuses on optimizing protein-based therapeutic leads (such as antibodies, multi-specifics, and fusion proteins) and involves close collaboration with project teams to drive innovation in the design of biotherapeutics.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Protein Design and Computational Analysis:

    • Provide expertise in structure and AI-based computational analysis of protein therapeutics.
    • Work with project teams to optimize protein biotherapeutic leads, using computational models to design improved candidates.
    • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds.
  2. Development of Computational Workflows:

    • Implement and evaluate new methods to enhance the throughput and accuracy of molecular modeling workflows.
    • Analyze data sets to uncover relationships between protein structure and key pharmaceutical properties.
    • Engineer improved platforms for protein therapeutics and RNA vaccines.
  3. AI and Machine Learning Integration:

    • Utilize AI tools for protein design and property prediction, probing their limits to improve therapeutic outcomes.
    • Develop and refine AI/ML models to optimize biotherapeutic properties.
  4. Cross-Department Collaboration:

    • Work with colleagues from various departments to integrate new methods and improve the design process.
    • Contribute to the development of analysis workflows usable by other teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field with experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience:

    • Strong track record in protein design or property optimization using computational methods (structure-based and AI/ML-based).
    • Publication history in protein design or related areas.
    • Experience with AI tools for protein design and/or property prediction.
    • Expertise in one or more protein structure modeling software packages.
    • Experience with programming in Linux environments (using Perl, Python, Matlab, Jupyter Notebook, etc.).
  • Technical Skills:

    • Working knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases.
    • Ability to conduct research projects and present results to scientists with experimental backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of antibody structure and function.
  • Experience with RNA structure prediction and optimization.
  • Familiarity with Linux systems administration and HPC environments.
  • Experience with software suites such as Schrodinger, Rosetta, Discovery Studio, FoldX, MOE.
  • Ability to integrate multiple scientific software toolkits to create new analysis workflows.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to perform complex data analysis effectively.

Work Schedule and Travel Requirements:

  • May involve occasional early morning meetings with colleagues in Dublin or the US eastern time zone.
  • Work Location: Hybrid (partially remote, partially in-office).

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $99,900 to $166,500 annually, with a bonus target of 15% of base salary.
