Position: Principal Clinical Coder

Role Overview:
Syneos Health seeks an experienced Principal Clinical Coder to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and lead complex medical coding processes for large, multicenter studies. This role involves advanced technical expertise, strategic oversight of coding activities, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and contributing to the development and optimization of coding tools and processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy:

    • Demonstrate proven lead experience in multicenter large studies.
    • Act as SME for coding tools and processes, representing the Coding team in Data Management (DM) meetings.
    • Provide guidance on coding conventions, specifications, and decision-making processes in liaison with sponsors.
  • Coding Operations:

    • Oversee dictionary up-versioning, schema design, and auto-coding algorithm implementation.
    • Ensure consistent and high-quality coding practices, including trend analysis and QC findings.
    • Manage coding resource allocation, pricing, and bidding.
  • Collaboration:

    • Liaise with Data Management, Programming, and Safety teams to ensure seamless integration of coding processes.
    • Assist in the preparation of coding metrics and KPI reports for management.
    • Represent the organization in national and international meetings.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Extensive knowledge of Standardized Data Groupings (SDGs), Standardized MedDRA Queries (SMQs), and dictionary management.
    • Facilitate dictionary cleanup, repository maintenance, and sourcing references for TMS (Thesaurus Management System).
    • Support database lock (DBL) processes and UAT for coding deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BS/BA in Biological Sciences, Healthcare, or Clinical Research preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of strong medical coding experience, with expertise in MedDRA (LSMV for safety and non-safety coding).
    • MedDRA certification is an advantage.
    • Extensive WHODrug coding experience.
    • TMS approval experience, including dictionary cleanup and reference sourcing.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in dynamic environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with sponsors and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other tools.
  • Experience working within a matrix-structured organization is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
