Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Pharmacist to support our hospital system in Wrangell, Alaska. This position is integral to the pharmacy department, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy while achieving appropriate patient outcomes. The role involves preparing and distributing medications in compliance with federal and state regulations, providing patient counseling and education, and advising medical and nursing staff on drug therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and distribute medications according to federal and state laws.
  • Counsel patients to ensure they understand their medications and expected outcomes, thereby enhancing medication compliance and reducing morbidity.
  • Select and maintain an appropriate drug inventory.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care.
  • Utilize independent professional judgment to evaluate the appropriateness and safety of each prescription.
  • Consult with prescribers if questions arise, making recommendations for alternative therapies as needed.
  • Conduct Drug Utilization Evaluations to educate medical staff and improve patient care, potentially resulting in cost savings for the clinic.
  • Contribute to the formulation of policies and procedures impacting departmental operations.
