Certification Details

Candidates must possess a Pharm.D. degree and hold licensure as a registered pharmacist. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (if licensed prior to 2003) and a minimum of three years of experience will be considered. Licensure must be unrestricted in any state. Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) must be obtained within one year of hire. Completion of a pharmacy residency program accredited by ASHP is preferred.

Job Details

This role operates within the pharmacy department, primarily focused on ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy and optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and distributing medications in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Providing patient counseling and education.
  • Advising medical, nursing, and village staff on drug therapy.
  • Selecting and maintaining an appropriate drug inventory.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives.

The pharmacist’s services directly influence patient healthcare, necessitating professionalism, respect for confidentiality, and adherence to the seven Standards for Service Excellence as outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual.

Job Requirements

  • Pharm.D. degree and active licensure as a registered pharmacist.
  • Candidates licensed before 2003 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree must have at least three years of experience in a hospital or ambulatory clinic pharmacy.
  • An unrestricted license as a registered pharmacist in any state is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To work effectively as part of the medical team, proficiency in reviewing patient medical histories, lab results, and medication orders is essential, supported by a solid foundation in pharmaceutical sciences. Specific qualifications include:

  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care for patients.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with patients and staff.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Accurate mathematical skills for drug dosage calculations and compounding.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with health system and pharmacy staff, exercising sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to manage frequent interruptions, adapt to changing workloads, and prioritize tasks.
  • Independence in decision-making and responsiveness to emergency requests.
