Job Title: Pharmacist
Facility: Arctic Slope Native Association, Barrow, AK
Compensation: $87.37 per hour

Job Summary:

The Pharmacist provides accurate, safe, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care, either directly or through the supervised efforts of support staff, to the patients of Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital and retail consumers. This position is responsible for a range of duties in clinical and pharmaceutical care and will collaborate closely with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal medication therapy for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Practice Leadership: Act as a specialist in an assigned area of expertise, provide clinical direction, and engage in consumer education.
  • Treatment Guidelines: Aid in the development and evaluation of cost-efficient and appropriate drug therapy treatment guidelines.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
  • Performance Improvement: Assist in developing, evaluating, and reporting on Performance Improvement, Drug Utilization Evaluation, Adverse Drug Reaction reporting, and other assigned projects.
  • Staff Development: Provide staff development opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians, including evaluating clinical skills and performance.
  • Clinical Research: Participate in clinical research projects as assigned.
  • Pharmaceutical Distribution: Ensure accurate pharmaceutical services by interpreting provider drug orders and dispensing medications in accordance with departmental programs.
  • Drug-Related Problem Resolution: Identify, resolve, and prevent potential drug-related issues by reviewing medical data and patient profiles.
  • Communication: Communicate directly with healthcare providers regarding patient drug therapy and provide drug information to patients.
  • Cost Management: Monitor drug therapy for cost-effectiveness and communicate cost-saving recommendations.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Document medication errors, near misses, and ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.

Education & Experience:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (Pharm D. preferred).
    • Completion of a residency or at least two years of post-graduate clinical practice in retail and inpatient pharmacy (preferred).
  • Preferred:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • Active membership in both state and national pharmacy organizations.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances within the United States.

  • Strong communication skills to educate and guide both patients and staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Workplace Requirements:

  • Adhere to state and federal regulations in pharmaceutical practice.
