Role Introduction

As an Associate Medical Director, Patient Safety Physician, you will play a key role in managing and predicting the safety profiles of marketed products. You will bring your expertise in safety surveillance, regulatory documentation, and clinical data evaluation to ensure the highest standards in patient safety.


Key Accountabilities

Safety Surveillance and Risk Management

  • Conduct medical review and evaluation of adverse events and other safety data.

  • Perform signal detection, evaluation, and contribute to Safety Management Team (SMT) activities for complex established products.

  • Author and review aggregate regulatory safety documents and Health Hazard Evaluation reports.

  • Proactively assess the clinical implications of safety data from diverse sources.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with external provider representatives and internal stakeholders to discuss data evaluation outcomes.

  • Represent AstraZeneca in external regulatory and non-regulatory meetings.

  • Provide medical input into various processes and deliverables.

Process Improvement and Leadership

  • Drive and contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Patient Safety function.

  • Supervise and mentor Patient Safety colleagues, sharing expertise and fostering development.


Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Medical degree (e.g., MD, MBBS).

  • Clinical Experience: At least 2 years of post-registration clinical experience.

  • Patient Safety Expertise: Minimum 3 years in pharmacovigilance or related roles with proven evidence of delivery.

  • Total Experience: 6–11 years of combined clinical and safety-related work experience.

  • Key Skills:

    • High level of medical competence balanced with business-oriented decision-making.

    • Proven ability to work across therapeutic areas and functions.

    • Familiarity with epidemiological data and its application to safety assessment.

    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop Patient Safety colleagues.
