Job Details: Telepharmacist

The Telepharmacist will serve multiple hospitals across various states, utilizing technology to maximize the clinical pharmacists' contributions to high-quality patient care. This role involves active engagement with clinicians to enhance care team performance and improve patient outcomes. The Telepharmacist will review and approve medication orders, conduct clinical interventions as needed, and document all actions per the policies and procedures of both PipelineRx and its hospital clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform telepharmacy duties as outlined in the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and report directly to the Regional Manager.
  • Provide telepharmacy services for multiple clients and become proficient in various pharmacy information systems (PIS).
  • Obtain and maintain multiple state licenses as required.
  • Prioritize, assign, and evaluate work for assigned clients, maintaining accurate records and documenting actions taken.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Understand and interpret the laws, regulations, and policies governing pharmacy operations.

Schedule/Availability

This part-time position requires availability for at least two weekends per month, including participation in the on-call program. Shifts typically vary between 5 PM and 2 AM EST, with weekend shifts potentially starting as early as 2 PM EST.

Performance Objectives

  • Telepharmacy: Execute telepharmacy services for assigned clients, including remote order entry, verification, drug verification, and counseling as required.
  • Communication: Foster a company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Clinical Excellence: Continuously enhance the practice of pharmacy in a remote setting, providing drug information and clinical recommendations on various topics, including dosage adjustments and drug interactions.
  • Inpatient Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of IV fluids, admixture, TPN, narcotic and cardiac drips, IV antibiotics, and chemotherapy. Be aware of age-related medical conditions, including those affecting pediatric, geriatric, pregnant/nursing, and renal/hepatic patients.
  • Counseling: Provide guidance to patients, nurses, and medical staff on proper medication usage.
  • Variance Investigation: Investigate and report any medication variances to the Director of Quality Services within 48 hours of notification.

Operational Excellence

  • Learn to navigate multiple hospital pharmacy information systems effectively.
  • Obtain multiple state licenses promptly to meet team needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of orders and interactions with healthcare professionals, ensuring all recommendations are documented in the PLRX system by the end of each shift.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with PipelineRx clients and staff.
  • Understand and comply with the laws, regulations, and policies governing pharmacy operations.

Technical Excellence

  • Provide preliminary troubleshooting for technical issues.
  • Work with VPNs, various pharmacy information systems, automation systems, and standard software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) to deliver quality care.

Training and Development

  • Collaborate with the Regional Trainer to initiate and complete training for new hires or clients, covering policies, procedures, and software updates.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to clinical practices, PIS, or policy updates.
  • Maintain all necessary access codes, licenses, and reciprocity for the role.

Productivity

  • Strive to achieve and maintain the company’s productivity metrics.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Pharmacy (B.S. Pharmacy or PharmD).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital inpatient setting preferred.
  • Valid pharmacist license issued by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Ability to obtain multiple state licenses, with a willingness to serve clients in states such as FL, TX, and VA.
  • Knowledge of formulary policies, pharmacy and therapeutics policies, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team effectively.
