Position Overview:
The OncoImmuno Translational Science & Medicine Co-Op Program is an immersive 6-month, full-time opportunity at Johnson & Johnson designed for students interested in the research and development of therapeutics in immunology. This position provides a chance to work with a team of scientists dedicated to advancing novel therapies for immune-mediated diseases. The role will be located in La Jolla, California and follows a hybrid work model (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week).

Co-op students will work on projects related to immunology and translational science, with a focus on supporting the development of new therapeutics for diseases such as immune-mediated disorders. They will gain valuable experience in biomarker development, molecular biology techniques, and clinical research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to biomarker translational strategic planning and research, understanding target biology related to immune diseases.
  • Analyze human-derived samples using molecular biology methods like immunoassays, qPCR, and Nanostring to generate proteomic and transcriptomic data.
  • Isolate RNA, DNA, and cells from human tissues.
  • Attend departmental and cross-functional team meetings.
  • Shadow senior research personnel and contribute to lab experiments.
  • Conduct literature reviews to stay updated on new technologies.
  • Prepare abstracts and posters for the research symposium.
  • Contribute to other assigned projects.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. with no sponsorship required.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University or College program throughout the co-op.
  • Undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of four semesters and have some lab experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Pursuing a degree in biology, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, immuno-oncology, or similar fields.
  • Motivated, passionate about drug development and clinical research.
  • Leadership skills and participation in campus or service programs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work well in collaborative and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
  • Commitment to a 6-month co-op duration.

Preferred:

  • 6 months of hands-on laboratory experience (molecular biology, cell biology, immunology).
  • A dynamic, entrepreneurial mindset with problem-solving abilities.
