Job Summary

The Medical Transcriptionist, under the direction of the Medical Transcription Supervisor, performs daily activities of transcribing pathology reports from digital voice dictation.

Essential Functions

  • Report Handling: Return dictated reports in electronic form for physician's review, signature, corrections, and inclusion in patients' medical records.
  • Editing and Review: Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology.
  • Transcription: Transcribe dictation by pathologists and histological staff regarding the gross and microscopic descriptions and diagnosis of anatomic pathology.
  • Medical Terminology: Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies and mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries, drug references, and other sources on anatomy and physiology.
  • Translation of Abbreviations: Translate medical terminology and abbreviations into their expanded forms to ensure the accuracy of patient and health care facility records.
  • Error Identification: Identify mistakes in reports and check with doctors to obtain the correct information.
  • Security Practices: Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Compliance: Familiarize with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
