Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role at Novartis involves leading scientific engagement with Medical Experts, implementing clinical and educational strategies, and responding to unsolicited medical inquiries. As an MSL, you will collaborate with a diverse range of external stakeholders to create value, address patient needs, and enhance medical practices. You will leverage evidence to drive the Integrated Product Strategy (IPS), Integrated Evidence Generation Plans, and other key medical strategies. Your role will include contributing to innovative healthcare partnerships and executing disease area strategies.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Partnership: Serve as a strategic partner by gathering and applying insights to enhance Patient Journey mapping, launch excellence roadmaps, evidence generation plans, and medical strategies. Utilize expertise in therapeutic areas and Novartis compounds to support field matrix colleagues.
  • Data Gap Identification: Identify data gaps, opportunities for data generation (including RWE and implementation science), and unmet needs to improve patient access and outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Map and identify key external stakeholders in alignment with medical strategy. Develop personalized, flexible engagement strategies and plans to meet stakeholder needs using various channels and tailored content.
  • Enhanced Outreach: Expand engagement beyond Healthcare Professionals and support innovative partnership models to transform clinical practice. Apply impactful Scientific Engagement principles aligned with medical strategies and portfolio priorities.
  • Evidence Communication: Deliver relevant evidence to stakeholders to support informed decision-making. Respond to unsolicited information requests regarding marketed and pipeline compounds in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Clinical Trials Support: Promote Novartis Clinical Trials and leverage digital channels for effective, personalized outreach. Lead impactful scientific events and medical education.
  • Administrative Management: Manage personal development and administrative tasks including CRM tool updates, compliance training, expense reporting, and adherence to Ethics and Compliance Professional Practices Policy (P3). Facilitate Managed Access Programs (MAPs) where applicable.

Essential Requirements:

  • Education: Pharmacist, Masters, or other postgraduate degree in health/life sciences; Doctoral degree (PharmD, PhD, MD) preferred.
  • Experience: 2-3 years in a medical function within at least one therapeutic area.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Ability to apply a curious mindset, active listening, and problem-solving techniques. Proven capability in leveraging technology for stakeholder engagement and insights gathering.
  • Attributes: Strong business acumen, innovative and solution-oriented thinking, high personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, field-based environment.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Specialization: Experience in oncology.
