Job Purpose:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – BioMedicines is a field-based medical professional with in-depth knowledge of specific disease states, Lilly’s compounds, and the competitive landscape within the BioMedicines therapeutic area. The MSL engages in scientific exchange with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and external experts to provide strategic insights that inform Lilly’s research and development direction. This role helps to facilitate discussions between the scientific community and Lilly, ultimately shaping the future of healthcare.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and Effectively Communicate Deep Scientific Knowledge

    • Continuously engage in learning to maintain the highest level of expertise in BioMedicines.
    • Act as a trusted resource for unbiased, accurate, up-to-date scientific information, helping to address complex customer queries and scientific questions.
  2. Customer Engagement and Scientific Support

    • Engage in customer-facing dialogues with KOLs, researchers, and healthcare professionals, offering deep insights into disease states and Lilly products.
    • Connect scientific experts with other internal Lilly teams for research collaboration or partnerships.
    • Address unsolicited scientific information needs and ensure timely responses to customer inquiries.
  3. Strategic Vision and Leadership

    • Synthesize complex clinical data and communicate key insights to internal stakeholders.
    • Utilize internal resources effectively to drive solutions and ensure alignment with Lilly’s strategic goals.
    • Make independent decisions or escalate as needed, while contributing to the medical planning and strategy.
  4. Territory Ownership

    • Demonstrate strong strategic planning and territory management skills, prioritizing core activities for maximum efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external regulations, procedures, and laws.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Requirements:

    • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field) required. Preference will be given to candidates with a medical degree or relevant therapy area experience.
    • Previous experience in a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role or field-based experience working with Scientific Experts and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) is highly desired.
  • Experience:

    • Experience in providing complex scientific information to customers and stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to network and develop relationships in the medical community.
    • Familiarity with health systems, academic research, and the medical education process is advantageous.

Desired Skills:

  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 80% of the time within the country; weekend work may be required.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Analytical Skills: Intellectual curiosity and the ability to analyze complex scientific data, translating findings into actionable insights.
  • Self-management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in the field.
  • Collaboration: Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with high emotional intelligence to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Technology Proficiency: Advanced presentation and computer skills with expertise in literature identification and scientific communication tools.
