Job Purpose:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical professional with deep expertise in specific disease states, Lilly’s products, and competitor compounds. The MSL’s role is to facilitate scientific exchange, communicate valuable insights from scientific experts, and help shape the strategic direction of Lilly's research. Through interactions with the scientific community, MSLs provide crucial information that addresses important clinical and scientific questions.


Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Knowledge & Engagement:

  • Continuously maintain deep expertise in the therapeutic area(s) they represent.
  • Respond to complex scientific questions, serving as a trusted resource for scientific and medical knowledge.
  • Establish themselves as an unbiased, credible source of up-to-date medical and scientific information, sought after by customers.

Customer Engagement & Scientific Support:

  • Engage in field-based, two-way dialogues with scientific experts, ensuring the highest quality customer experience.
  • Provide advanced disease state and product information to address customer needs.
  • Connect scientific experts with internal Lilly resources and explore opportunities for collaborative research or partnerships.

Strategic Vision & Leadership:

  • Synthesize complex data to communicate meaningful clinical insights to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.
  • Solve problems creatively and use internal resources effectively to implement solutions.
  • Make independent decisions using a principle-based approach while collaborating across functions to contribute to medical planning and strategy.

Territory Ownership:

  • Demonstrate strong strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to maximize efficiency within the assigned territory.
  • Implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan, ensuring core activities are prioritized and personal accountability is maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, demonstrating sound judgment.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) or similar medically related field.
  • Preference for candidates with a Medical Degree and/or previous relevant therapy area experience.
  • Previous MSL or field-based experience with scientific experts and Key Opinion Leaders.
  • Experience in addressing customer needs for complex medical information.

  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, with occasional work on weekends.
  • Scientific Curiosity: Strong intellectual curiosity about the therapeutic area(s) being represented.
  • Learning Agility: Ability to quickly comprehend and communicate complex scientific content.
  • Self-Directed: Capacity to manage multiple priorities independently while working remotely.
  • Presentation & Computer Skills: Expertise in literature identification and advanced presentation skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to analyze, assess, and interpret scientific data to forecast future implications.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Teamwork & Emotional Intelligence: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional relationships and network effectively.
