About the Role

As a Medical Coding Specialist (Chennai, India ~ Office-based), you'll join the world’s largest and most comprehensive clinical research organization, powered by healthcare intelligence.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Analyze and evaluate clinical data terminology (medical history verbatim, adverse experiences, and/or concomitant medications) for coding purposes.
  • Identify and resolve data inconsistencies, ensuring follow-up until satisfactory resolution.
  • Ensure medical accuracy and integrity of the dictionary system through precise coding and thorough term/drug research.
  • Create and maintain ad-hoc computer procedures for generating subset dictionary listings for sponsor review and approval.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work under pressure, organizing work requests and setting priorities based on sponsor-driven project milestones.
  • Write coding SOPs and study-specific guidelines.
  • Maintain Clinical Data Management SOPs.
  • Serve as the Clinical Data Management contact for coding-related questions and query resolutions.
  • Act as a sponsor contact for study-related inquiries and resolutions.
  • Collaborate with various teams, including Biostatistics, Clinical, Project Management, Safety, and site personnel.
  • Provide assistance, mentoring, and training to Clinical Data Management staff, such as Clinical Data Coordinators and Data Entry staff.
  • Proactively recommend new tools and methods.
  • Possess expert knowledge of coding applications, databases, processes, and tools, serving as a liaison for cross-functional groups like Global Patient Safety and Medical Directors.
  • Exercise independent judgment in developing methods and evaluation criteria to obtain results.
  • Make recommendations regarding the development of coding conventions and procedures related to Medical Coding.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Science, or Arts, or at least 5 years of clinical experience (in-house or field).
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Data Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with ICH and GCP guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly anatomy and physiology.
  • Understanding of the Clinical Trial Process and Data Management Process.
  • Knowledge of the Drug Development Process.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and time management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MedDRA and WHO Drug classification dictionaries.
  • Familiarity with ClinTrial, SQL, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
