Role Summary

Optum is looking for a Medical Coding Analyst to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical records, applying coding guidelines (AMA, AHA, CMS), and ensuring accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes are used in line with documentation and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement updates according to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines.

  • Review and analyze medical records to add or modify CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory procedures.

  • Extract and code various screening CPT and HCPCS codes from documentation.

  • Check NCCI edits and LCD & NCD coverage determinations, modifying codes and modifiers as necessary.

  • Contribute to team efforts to improve quality and productivity.

  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure timely and accurate coding, ensuring compliance with regulatory and client guidelines.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient records and systems as per HIPAA policies.

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures and comply with any changes in employment terms or conditions.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree.

  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (certifications such as CPC, CCS, CIC, COC accepted).

  • Must provide proof of certification with valid certification identification during the interview or offer process.

  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.

  • Knowledge of security policies and procedures related to system security and data integrity.

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
