Job Description

Role: Medical Coder

Responsibilities:

  • Perform medical record coding to index medical information for hospital, regional, and government statistics and accurate hospital reimbursement.
  • Code inpatient and/or outpatient records daily according to set schedules within the coding unit.
  • Accurately assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes in accordance with Coding Department guidelines, maintaining at least 95% accuracy in code choice and sequencing.
  • Identify and abstract records consistently and accurately.
  • Demonstrate time awareness by striving to meet deadlines and minimizing non-essential interruptions.
  • Meet departmental productivity standards for coding and entering inpatient and/or outpatient records.
  • Participate in coding meetings and education conferences to maintain coding skills and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working additional or changing hours as needed.
  • Understand how the position impacts the department and hospital.
  • Build cooperative working relationships with all members of departmental and hospital staff.
  • Attend conference calls as necessary to provide coding-related information.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

  • Graduate
  • Certified Fresher or experienced in medical coding or with relevant previous experience.
  • Must be a certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA.
  • Accepted certifications include CPC, CCS, CIC, and COC.
  • All candidates must have current coding certifications and provide proof of certification with a valid certification identification number during the interview/Offer process.
