Job Title: Medical Coder – AMA, AHA, and CMS Guidelines

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement updates based on AMA guidelines, AHA guidelines, and CMS guidelines.
  • Review and analyze medical records, modify/add CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory CPT codes as per documentation.
  • Extract and code various screening CPT codes and HCPCS codes from documentation.
  • Check NCCI edits and LCD & NCD coverage determinations, adjusting ICD-10-CM codes, CPT codes, and modifiers as needed.
  • Work collaboratively within a large team, contributing to quality and productivity improvements.
  • Organize and prioritize work under general supervision to ensure timely and compliant coding and resolution of edits.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies, including the flexibility of work benefits and any changes in business environment directives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree.
  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC certification accepted).
  • Proof of current coding certifications required during interview or offer process.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Familiarity with security policies and procedures for data protection.
  • Basic understanding of ED/EM levels, modifier appending based on NCCI edits, and CPT guidelines.
  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
