Position Summary

The Materials Science Crystallization Advisor-SMDD will join the Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) organization, focusing on solid-form screening, characterization, and crystallization of small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, and intermediates. The role involves providing technical leadership in the crystallization of new therapeutic modalities and ensuring successful scale-up processes for drug manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Solid-Form Screening and Crystallization:

  • Conduct solid-form screening and characterization of small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, and intermediates.

  • Scale-up crystallization for small molecules and peptide fragments.

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to solid form assessment and particle properties.

Workflow and Data Integration:

  • Develop workflows for solid-state integration with automated data analysis.

  • Maintain laboratory area and instrumentation related to solid-state and crystallization processes.

Communication and Documentation:

  • Document scientific results and provide clear communication through written and verbal presentations.

Technical Leadership:

  • Serve as a consultant for project teams solving complex solid-state related problems.

Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. degree in Physical Science (e.g., Chemistry), Pharmaceutics, or a related discipline.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Familiarity with solid-state analytical tools (e.g., XRPD, DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC) and crystallization instrumentation (e.g., Easymax, Crystal 16).

  • Demonstrated experience in solid form screening, crystallization, salt, and cocrystal screening for pharmaceutical solids.

  • Experience in scale-up crystallization of small molecules or peptides.

  • Strong understanding of the impact of pharmaceutical solid-state science on drug product performance and manufacturing.

Compensation

  • Anticipated Salary Range: $121,500 – $198,000 annually.

  • Eligible for company bonus program (based on company and individual performance).
