Job Description:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Life Science degree or specialization in Intellectual Property (IP) law.
  • Practical experience with patent databases, including regional patent offices and platforms like Sci-Finder, Orbit, and Ark.
  • Familiarity with the patent lifecycle in various markets.
  • Knowledge of biosimilars, biologics, and medical devices, including their life cycles.
  • Understanding of both paid and free IP-related databases.
  • Ability to assess novelty and inventive steps in evaluating inventions.
  • Capacity to analyze IP search outcomes effectively.

Responsibilities:

  1. Patent Analysis:

    • Collaborate with R&D teams during and after product development to provide IP insights through prior art investigation.
    • Work with internal and external IP advisors to ensure freedom to operate (FTO) for biosimilars and therapeutic peptides.
    • Assist in non-infringement and invalidity analyses.
    • Recommend strategies for challenging patents.
    • Coordinate with IP attorneys, business development, and R&D teams on IP-related tasks.
    • Help cross-functional teams understand relevant third-party IP rights.
  2. Patent Prosecution:

    • Partner with R&D on invention disclosures.
    • Prepare provisional and complete patent applications.
    • Advise on patent and divisional strategies.
    • Monitor global patent prosecution activities.
    • Ensure timely payment of patent fees to maintain active patent status worldwide.
  3. IP Litigation:

    • Manage patent and trademark litigations globally.
    • Develop and execute IP litigation strategies with internal and external legal advisors.
    • Coordinate with relevant teams for timely replies and briefs during legal proceedings.
    • Work with external patent attorneys for filings, prosecution, and renewals.
    • Liaise with trademark attorneys for filings, prosecution, and renewals.
  4. Competitive Intelligence:

    • Monitor and update on the IP landscape and competitive intelligence.
    • Assist in analyzing competitor patent portfolios and other techno-legal information sources.
    • Manage information to support R&D functions as needed.
