Position Description:

The Copyeditor in Medical Affairs Quality will review and copyedit U.S. medical (non-promotional) and promotional materials across various therapeutic areas and brands. The role ensures adherence to Customer Information Quality (CIQ) and Medical Content Approval (MCA) requirements while optimizing the quality, speed, and efficiency of the review and approval process for both promotional and medical materials.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Copyediting and Proofreading:

    • Review and copyedit promotional and medical materials according to Lilly’s quality standards (CIQ, MCA requirements).
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Marketing and Medical teams during the review and approval of materials.
    • Ensure consistency and alignment of materials with CIQ/MCA requirements, style guides, templates, and checklists.
    • Review language, grammar, style, spelling, and consistency to ensure clarity and readability of documents.
    • Correct flaws in logic and flow within the materials.
    • Ensure references comply with AMA Manual of Style or brand-specific style guides.
  • Process and Compliance:

    • Uphold Lilly’s procedures and processes, ensuring compliance with CIQ/MCA standards.
    • Ensure timely review and approval of materials, and identify corrective actions for recurring issues.
    • Track deviations and collaborate with CIQ/MCA Leads and Operations teams to manage them.
    • Partner with cross-functional colleagues to identify challenges and establish best practices across teams.
    • Continuously improve processes and ensure adherence to organizational project management best practices.
  • Tools and Technology:

    • Utilize tools and platforms such as Veeva Vault and project management software (e.g., Wrike, MS Project) to facilitate the review process.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience as an editor, copyeditor, or proofreader of promotional and medical content in the pharmaceutical industry or similar fields.
  • Familiarity with style guides, including the AMA Manual of Style and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Strong understanding of scientific/medical terminology.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work on cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, with strong attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in diverse, cross-functional environments.

Additional Preferences:

  • Familiarity with CIQ/MCA frameworks, procedures, and tools like Veeva Vault and Wrike.
  • Experience in reviewing and writing Medical Affairs communications deliverables (e.g., slide decks, patient materials).
  • Knowledge in therapeutic areas such as oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, immunology, or endocrinology.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific, health, communications, or health-related field.
