Position Overview:

The Formulation Scientist role is a key position within the Product Research and Development (PRD) organization. This team focuses on developing and delivering quality medicines to patients, spanning a diverse portfolio that includes insulins, monoclonal antibodies, small molecules, and gene therapies. Based at the Lilly Capability Centre India (LCCI) in Bengaluru, the team works closely with global teams to develop critical capabilities for Lilly’s portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Formulation Development & Process Improvement:

    • Apply experience in solid drug product manufacturing to accelerate the development of combination products and improve manufacturability.

    • Design robust manufacturing processes and control strategies for drug products, partnering with manufacturing teams to transfer control strategies.

    • Develop and apply material and manufacturing process risk assessments to aid formulation selection and experimental work-plans.

    • Lead and execute short- and long-term development activities with a focus on prioritizing technical agendas.

  2. Platform Development & Innovation:

    • Drive the implementation of new platforms such as continuous manufacturing, process analytical technologies (PAT), and modeling/simulation tools.

    • Demonstrate agility in applying biopharmaceutical knowledge to novel problems, enabling acceleration of drug product development.

    • Influence the external environment and adopt external innovation for Lilly's drug product portfolio.

  3. Regulatory Strategy & Documentation:

    • Lead the development of regulatory strategies, including authoring INDs, NDAs, and responses to regulatory inquiries.

    • Partner with multi-functional teams (Product Delivery, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory) to deliver clinical trial materials and regulatory submissions.

  4. Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Engage with diverse teams, fostering collaboration to drive results.

    • Guide and mentor teams, leveraging leadership capabilities to manage or supervise others’ work.


Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field with 4-7 years of experience, or a B.S./M.S. with 10+ years of equivalent experience in formulation science or a related field.

    • Experience in developing solid drug product formulations and manufacturing processes, particularly for complex combination products.

  • Preferred:

    • Experience with new platforms like PAT, modeling, and simulation tools.

    • Knowledge of non-standard oral drug delivery, such as modified release and peptides.

    • Leadership experience and technical project management skills.
