But we know there’s more to be done, and we need passionate, curious, and collaborative people like you to help us continue advancing our science and improve patient outcomes. Join us to help reimagine medicine!

As part of the Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) team at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), we are at the heart of Novartis' mission to design and develop new molecules that can address unmet medical needs. We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist with a strong background in medicinal and synthetic chemistry to help us drive the next generation of drug discovery.

About the Role:

In this role, you will co-lead multidisciplinary project teams focused on medicinal and synthetic chemistry. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across GDC US/Switzerland and Indian CROs to discover and develop therapies for diseases with high unmet needs. You will also drive key projects, using your expertise to guide research and work across functions to enable project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Co-lead and support multidisciplinary project teams, driving chemistry strategies for novel drug discovery projects in collaboration with global teams in the US and Switzerland, as well as external partners.

  • CRO Management: Act as the primary point of contact for CROs. Implement best practices for CRO management to ensure alignment with project priorities, enhance productivity, and maintain efficiency.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute integrated team plans and flexible chemistry strategies to effectively move projects forward in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

  • Data Integration & Reporting: Analyze complex data and collaborate on scientific hypotheses to design molecules, integrating disease biology, ADME, and toxicology data to drive project success.

  • External Engagement: Represent Novartis and NIBR to external partners, building relationships with external scientific groups and fostering new collaborations.

  • Timely Reporting: Ensure that all data and findings are accurately and promptly reported into Novartis' internal databases and shared with project teams.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related life science discipline with deep expertise in medicinal/synthetic organic chemistry and at least 12+ years of experience in drug discovery.

  • CRO Leadership & Project Impact: Proven experience managing CROs and leading drug discovery projects from hit generation to development candidate selection. Strong understanding of multi-parameter optimization to solve complex drug discovery problems.

  • Curiosity & Open-Mindedness: A mindset that values diverse perspectives, with a strong enthusiasm for continuous self-development and mentoring others.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to present and discuss scientific strategies and challenges clearly.

  • Interest in Emerging Technologies: A passion for disruptive technologies in drug discovery, including data science, automation, and miniaturization.

  • Health & Safety Commitment: A thorough understanding of Novartis' health, safety, and environmental policies, with a commitment to maintaining high standards.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented matrix environment.
