Position: Inpatient Facility Medical Coder

Pay: $36-$39.50/hr (based on experience, location, education, and certifications)

Position Overview:
The Inpatient Facility Medical Coder will perform coding and abstracting services for acute care inpatients, applying ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles. This role includes coding for medical and surgical admissions and complex cases, with DRG assignment, quality performance, and productivity targets. The coder will collaborate with physicians and participate in training initiatives, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and compliance with coding standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Code and abstract acute inpatient records, including complex cases, using CMS, UHDDS, and client guidelines for accurate DRG assignment.
  • Review and assign principal diagnoses, procedures, and other diagnoses per UHDDS standards.
  • Use AQuity applications for real-time coding entry.
  • Seek clarification from physicians for ambiguous documentation and participate in coding education within the team.
  • Keep credentials current, engage in team training, and participate in industry forums.
  • Maintain knowledge of current coding standards and client-specific guidelines.
  • Participate in team meetings, coding roundtables, and training as required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-5 years in acute care coding, including Level I and II trauma cases.
  • Education: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
  • Certifications: CCS, RHIA, or RHIT preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with 3M, 360, 3M HDM, Cerner, and Optum eCAC.
  • Skills: Strong communication, coding accuracy, and attention to detail.

Working Environment:
Remote position with extended periods of computer-based work and phone calls.
