As an Inpatient Medical Coder for IP/DRG, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate coding practices and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Your work will involve reviewing inpatient and observation medical records, assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, and working with physician queries to ensure accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG coding principles, including regulatory guidelines (e.g., UHDDS, AHA coding clinic updates).
  • Write physician queries in compliance with OIG and UHDDS regulations.
  • Apply knowledge of MS-DRG, MDC, AP-DRG, APR-DRG, and handle CC/MCC coding.
  • Support the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program and collaborate with teams to ensure accurate coding.
  • Use encoder tools like 3M, Trucode (preferred) for hospital coding.
  • Review inpatient and observation medical records to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Achieve target productivity, maintain accuracy, and meet turnaround time requirements.
  • Ensure high professional and ethical standards and participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Stay updated on coding skills through ongoing education and training.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduates in life sciences with 1-4 years of experience in Medical Coding.
  • Candidates with CCS/CIC certification and hospital coding experience are preferred.
  • Exposure to MS-DRG, CC, MCC coding, and encoder tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical coding systems, terminologies, regulatory requirements, and auditing principles.
  • Ongoing certification training through AAPC and AHIMA provided.
